Ask your government to set up a moratorium on factory farming

Our growing population, urbanization and increasing economic prosperity are driving greater demand for animal products.

Harms Caused by Factory Farming

Sacrificing food safety and animal welfare for profits has resulted in the dangerous overuse of antibiotics. Factory farming systems use up to 75 percent of the world’s supply of antibiotics. Even though there is growing evidence that higher welfare farming systems can reduce the need for antibiotics, factory farming systems continue their irresponsible use of these antibiotics—increasing the risk of antibiotic resistance in people. This problem is so severe that the World Health Organization (WHO) has identified antibiotic resistance as one of the top 10 global threats to human health. Already more than 1.25 million people die each year as a result of antibiotic resistance. it is estimated that this will rise to at least 10 million people by 2050.

Animal agriculture is the primary cause of habitat loss, which is the greatest threat to the planet’s biodiversity and a key unspoken driver of climate change. Industrial livestock systems are especially destructive with roughly one-third of arable land globally used to produce animal feed for industrial livestock systems. Relying on destructive practices to grow and trade enough feed to keep billions of farm animals alive results in the destruction of wild animal habitats, immense suffering for displaced animals, and a huge carbon footprint.

This campaign is now closed.

The petition was submitted to all governments during the COP27 meeting to compel them to set up a moratorium on factory farming as a way to protect animals, humans, and the planet.
